Bloom Wood - Club Cross-Country run - 15May 2021

We have special permission to run in Bloom Woods on the 15 May (one day only), per kind favour of Berkshire Orienteers and Andrew Southwood.

This is an opportunity to run somewhere different in private woodlands on our doorstep in Bloom Wood near Monkton Barn in Marlow.

There will be two courses to choose from - a 5km route or an 8km (5mile) route - start and finish together and largely overlap. The courses will be through woods and underfoot is a mixture of hard paths, chalk paths, open land (grass/leaves and in places light undergrowth covering).

The courses will be marked with tape and have one road crossing (that needs to be crossed twice - out and back). There will be signposting where the two courses split.

Getting there & parking

Change of arrangements – we can no longer park at Monkton Barn. Please park in Monkton Lane. Enter via 3 Horseshoes pub – Pump Lane North. Follow the road under the bypass and park anywhere from there until the lane turns from tarmac to dirt. Then walk up the dirt track 100m and enter the field on the right via the gate.

The start

We will be operating staggered start times in 2minute intervals of groups up to 6 runners. The start is anytime from 9am until 11am. Please do not all turn up at 9am – as 50 people at once would take almost 20 minutes to get you all over the start line. Spread your arrival between 9:00 and 9:30 and we will get you all started with minimal waiting time at the start. Once you have started your run, you are not obliged to stick with your group. And you can overtake if you catch up to runners who started ahead of you.

Timing - Strava

Most members are connected to Strava - join the Strava club event here. Those not on Strava can send me a screenshot/photo of their activity using whichever running watch / software you use.

There will be a race clock and your start and finish times will be recorded. After the event, the “elapsed times” will be published.

Maps of routes

5km PDF / 8km PDF route maps are available (note these are for illustrative purposes only - there will be tape marking both courses and these are not "orienteering" runs).

5km GPX / 8km GPX files are available for mapping through GPS devices.

Covid restrictions (the boring but important bits you must agree to) -

Registration must be completed on the Striders website (similar to booking a training run).
Once finished, as tempting as it may be, we cannot hang around and socialise - due to covid restrictions runners must "arrive, run, and leave"
This is an intra-club (Striders only) event limited to 50 runners / walkers.
No water/food stations on route nor at the start/finish. Please bring own food & water (for own use, not for sharing).
There will be no toilet facilities (on the course nor at the start/finish).
