The 2 Lakes Trail Races

2 LAKES, 2 DAMS, 3 FANTASTIC TRAIL ROUTES!

The 2 LAKES TRAIL HALF MARATHON, 10k & 5k events are based high up on the Denbigh Moors, taking in the reservoirs of Alwen and Llyn Brenig. The routes stay well above the 300m contour throughout and take in lakeside tracks, more technical woodland sections, moorland paths and some fast dirt track and minor road. The race HQ is the excellent Brenig Visitor centre, and here you can find registration, parking, excellent facilities (lovely cake!!) and the start/finish area a short walk away.

All finishers will receive their event-specific medal at the finish line.

Jenny Douglas did the Half Marathon in 2016, and said 'I was definitely having fun there - my favourite race to date!'

The route for the HALF MARATHON enjoys a gentle start alongside the Eastern shore of Llyn Brenig, and crosses the moorland at the Northern end of the lake to begin a loop around to the Nature Reserve and the eventually the footbridge at the Alwen Reservoir. An ascent to over 400m then follows and the run back to cross the spectacular Alwen dam, and the final climb to the Brenig dam and the finish line! A beautiful Half Marathon route - one that'll stay with you :-)

The new 2 LAKES 10k route starts at the finish area for the Half, and makes it's way across the dam, and at the far end takes a right turn to descend towards Pentrellyncymer. After a really nice, fast moorland section, the route crosses the road and you'll soon meet the shores of the Alwen Reservoir. Across the dam here, and now following the same approach to the finish as the Half route - with a fair amount of climbing to the downhill sprint to the finish, where you started!

The 2 LAKES 5k enjoys a fast start across the Brenig dam, and descends briefly on the 10k route, before branching off left into the Clocaenog Forest, on winding tracks, before eventually emerging beside the lakeshore for a refreshinhg finish alongside the lake.
