Start building those karts NOW! The Otterton Grand Soapbox Derby returns on Saturday 20th June 2025 and this year we have a new bigger and better OFF ROAD course!

Get building for a rougher terrain!! Click on this link to view our trial run on the new course!  It will be considerably faster once the grass has been cut and rolled and we put in a start kicker!

Karts all need to have mechanical brakes, mechanical steering, a minimum of 4 wheels and no sharp edges, suspension is advised but not essential! Maximum of three passengers and all passengers/ drivers must wear a crash helmet. Entry is £25 for Adults and £5 for under 16's.  Please enter online to avoid disappointment on the day.

The Rules

It is not a neck-and-neck race, competitors will be asked to bring an unpowered homemade kart/ soapbox and the winner will be the one who rolls the furthest from a standing start. We do not want to produce a massive list of rules for constructors, but the following are essential:
1. KARTS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF THREE WHEELS AND PREFERABLY FOUR.
2. KARTS MUST HAVE AN EFFECTIVE BRAKING AND STEERING SYSTEM
3. COMPETITORS MUST WEAR A HELMET, LONG CLOTHING (PREFERABLY WELL PADDED) AND STURDY FOOTWEAR
4. MULTI-PERSON KARTS ARE ALLOWED AS LONG AS EACH MEMBER OF THE CREW HAS A PROPER SEAT
5. KART MUST HAVE NO SHARP EDGES OR PROJECTIONS
6. ALL ENTRIES WILL BE SUBJECT TO A BRIEF SCRUTINEERING BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO START THE COURSE. THE JUDGES’ DECISION IS FINAL
7. ALL ENTRANTS PARTICIPATE AT THEIR OWN RISK

We trust competitors to stick to the spirit of the rules so we don’t have to over-regulate this event in
future!

Gates open from 8.30am at Sea View Farm, Ladram Bay, Otterton, Budleigh Salterton EX9 7BU.

Please have your kart in the paddock by 9.30am for judging at 10am for the “best looking” constructor’s award. Downhill runs will commence at approx. 11am. A flatbed trailer will be available to bring your kart back to the start of the course.

All proceeds go towards community projects in the village.
