Bridport Triathlon

BRIDPORT TRIATHLON 2021

The Bridport triathlon returns in 2021 and is a pool based Triathlon aimed at all levels of fitness and ability, the shorter distance option makes this event perfect for someone that’s taking part in their first event or if you have entered triathlons before and are looking to improve on your sprint distance ability.

After the success of the BRIDPORT TRIATHLON in previous years we are running the event again to encourage people to take on the challenge of this great sport.

You can enter the event as an individual and complete all three disciplines over the Sprint or shorter distance Super sprint, or a Relay team with friends or colleagues.

(One person to do each element, so 3 different people in total).

For 2021 there is also a FREE to enter junior triathlon, the tri stars will have three entry levels,

TriStar 1 - Ages 10 and Under

TriStar 2 - Ages 11, 12 and 13

TriStar 3 - Ages 14, 15 and 16

As with all the events your age group is based on your age at 31/12/2021, please make sure you enter the correct event.

And if you don’t fancy swimming enter the Duathlon for an equally testing challenge.

WHAT IS TRIATHLON:

Triathlon is a multi-discipline event where people compete against the clock and each other. Swimming, cycling and running with no break except for the transition

(this is a quick pit stop to change into the clothing for the next discipline).

INFORMATION FOR BEGINNERS

This event is aimed at anyone who facies entering a triathlon and we expect most of the field will be taking on their first triathlon. All you need is a swimming costume or trunks, goggles (not compulsory), a bike (road or mountain bike if it is in roadworthy condition), a cycle helmet (compulsory) and a pair of trainers.

So, go on give it a tri! You will be given full instructions before the event and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch, by email or social media.

WHAT IS TRANSITION:
Each triathlon has a special place called a transition area (and there is almost always only one such zone) where participants change gear and clothing and do anything else, they might need to do before moving on to the next stage. Now, you might think this would be a good time to catch your breath, pop an energy bar or wax eloquent about your favourite electrolyte with the other athletes. If you're doing the triathlon for fun or to just see if you can finish, then knock yourself out. In fact, first-time triathletes should be more concerned with getting familiar with the whole scene.

But if you're in it to win, the transition can easily make or break you -- and the clock keeps on ticking. Moving between events in the most efficient way possible means you won't have to make up that time on the bike or during the run, conserving energy for when you really need it. If you think for a moment about how long it takes to take a drink, put on some socks or eat a granola bar, you can begin to appreciate just how important the transition can be.

SPECIFIC DISTANCE INFORMATION:

The swim - 200m / 400m
To start the event you need to swim either 8 or 16 lengths of the heated swimming pool (any stroke is fine) and then you make your way to the transition area and prepare for the bike ride.

The bike - 25km / 25km
After completing the swim you will then jump on your bike for 25km around the local country lanes. The route is hilly in places so please pace yourselves accordingly. (Same route for all distances)

Run - 3km / 5km
Once the bike has been completed you then return to transition for the run, this is 3k/5K around the surrounding paths and includes some off-road sections.

Duathlon 3km / 25km / 5km
The Duathlon event will consist of a 3 km (2.92 km), a 25 km bike, and a 5 km (4.65) km run. The second run is a different route to the first.
