Rugby Challenge

Rugby, Warwickshire.

Parking (free!) is at St Andrews rugby club, use the post code CV22 5QQ for Sat Navs. It is on the edge of Rugby 12 minutes from Junction 18 of the M1 and Junction 1 of the M6. The closest train station is Rugby.

How far is the race?

You decide! The 3.5-mile out and back lap along the Great Central Way means your race can run just over 5k or, given the relatively flat nature of the course, potentially 49.5 miles! You decide how many laps you are going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you're looking to cover a marathon distance you'll need to complete 8 laps (28 miles) and a half marathon will be 4 laps (14 miles).

Entry info

There is an entry limit. Once the event gets down to the last places we'll endeavor to make people aware through social media and emails (join the mailing list!). Once the event is full a waiting list will be created. Contact info@bigbearevents.net for information on this.

There is a public car park at St Andrews Rugby club that is free to park in. It is used by locals (dog walking usually) and as an overflow car park for the crematorium but there should be ample space before 9am. If the car park is full you must not park in the cremaorium car park. Please venture onto Percival Road or other local streets to park.

Is this a cupless event?

Yes. Please read our page on cupless events if you haven't experienced it before. It's obviously good for the environment to reduce plastic use and general waste. Yes, you wont break a world record having to stop to fill a bottle of water or carry a hydration pack but over a marathon distance it would probably add less than a minute to your time. We will have water, isotonic drinks, tea and coffee and real Coca Cola for you, but to be clear - we wont supply disposable cups for drinks. If you'd like to purchase a foldable cup we have them for sale here.

Course description

You can see the conditions of the course from the photos of previous events. In summary, it's flat for 3.3 miles with a little killer of the zig zags at the end of each lap! At least it means you get to go down them at the start of each lap though... Underfoot is mainly a new (2017) £50 000 crushed stone path. There is a small section of old track that can become muddy and waterlogged if it has rained heavily in the lead up to the event. It is a very runnable course, although if you run for 6 hours we'll be very impressed if you run up the zig zags on your last lap! Lap 1 will be slightly different so you don't have to start in single file going down the zig zags.
