The Taunton Flyer sportive, now in its fourth year, will take place from Taunton Racecourse on Saturday 20th May 2017.
The Taunton Flyer is themed around the wartime airfields of East Devon and Somerset, with routes that go past RAF Exeter (Exeter Airport), RAF Dunkeswell, RAF Upottery (Smeatharpe), RAF Culmhead, RAF Merryfield, and RAF Westonzoyland. We also have a full scale replica Spitfire Aircraft (the only one in the world!) on display at the event HQ. Guided tours of the cockpit will be available and there will be a draw prize in support of SSAFA for the privilege to sit in the aircraft and fire up its Merlin Meteor Engine.
This spectacular early season sportive, offers some nice, flat, open, flowing roads combined with a couple of testing climbs in the Blackdown Hills.
The Taunton Flyer offers you a choice of three routes:
- The Spitfire (55 km / 34 miles)
- The Dakota (114 km / 70 miles), or
- The Wellington (178 km / 111 miles).
All routes are well signed and fully supported. We have well stocked feed stations with a wide selection of sweet & savory foods, plus hot and cold drinks.
The sportive includes electronic chip timing (with split points) providing you with an official completion time, plus a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal standard for both your age and gender category. All finishers will be awarded a quality medal and Goody Bag.
