Surrey Legs of Steel 2017: Dave Aitchison Challenge Ride

RIDER INSTRUCTIONS TO BE SENT OUT WEDNESDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER!

The Surrey Legs of Steel 2017 is a challenging cyclosportive in the Surrey Hills. The event is held to commemorate Dave Aitchison, a rising star in British triathlon and Ful-On Tri club member who died suddenly in January 2007 aged 29. All profits from the event go towards Dave Aitchison SportsAid Fund set up in Dave’s name by his family and the club to assist talented young triathletes in the Triathlon London region. For more details about the fund and to make a donation please visit the Justgiving page.

The Surrey Legs of Steel event, now in its eleventh year, will be open to anyone with a passion for cycling and the thigh-burning Surrey hills where Dave did so much of his training for his spectacular 2006 season.

The ride will take place on Saturday 30 September 2017, with riders rolling out between 8am and 9:30am.

ROUTES CONFIRMED!

The new short route is 45k and is no easy option with 1024m of climbing (virtually the same as in previous years). Riders taking the short route will experience at least four major climbs: Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, the new addition of Pitch Hill and White Down Hill (an 18% climb!).

Awards

Although our ride is a non-competitive event (i.e. not a race), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participant’s ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing Award you achieved, will be displayed on the Website and your results texted to you. Each rider will receive a timing award of bronze, silver or gold medal! (Award timings are still being calculated and will displayed on the website soon). Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
