I am knocking on the door of 61. I've never run 10k before, even in training, but I have done about 15 parkruns. My daughter is a serious runner and was also taking part. There was a real possibility of her being the first woman and me last man home.
I had three targets - to finish, without walking and inside 75 minutes. I failed with the middle one but managed the other two (just). I was alright for 5k but then my heart rate started to spike and I had to intersperse my running with ever more spells of walking. The heat didn't help!
My daughter didn't win the women's race, she was second. And, when the results came out, I was 119th out of 122 male finishers.
I now have new targets for training and for my next race. And I shall be looking out next year for the other first-timers I met on the day.
This was my first official 10k run and i loved it. The race set up was very friendly and organised, volonteers really made it special. Course was easy to follow and helpful marshals keepibg us safe. I was a bit nervous being on my own but it was lively having strangers clapping and helping you kerp going. Would definately recommend this run. Thanks.
I hadn't been running much lately so knew it would be a challenge. Love this course though ( it was my third time) the signs were fantastic and easy to follow. The supporters made it that little bit more manageable. A friendly event. My only disappointment was there is usually a coffee van. My husband and son came to support me and were very thirsty by the end.
