The Camuplodunum was conceived in 1974 by Derek Keeble as a 25 mile, long distance route around Colchester's town boundary. In its new form developed by CofR in 2023 to reach a marathon distance, it is a route that encircles the town of Colchester (known as Camulodunum in Roman times) and includes field paths, woodland, sea wall, prehistoric defence earthworks, a conservation valley, riverside as well as urban sections. We are proud to be including the event in our race calendar for 2024 and grateful to CofR for entrusting us to take the event in the future and keep it alive. 

Returning in 2024 as a self navigation route on the anniversary of 50yrs since its creation, we will be including fully stocked aid stations and checkpoints at approximately every 10km on the route as well as a .gpx file for your  peace of mind! 

The event will be starting and finishing at Bannatyne Gym & Spa Kingsford Park where you will find ample free parking and facilities. The bars and restaurants will be open for your use and for the use of your spectators/supporters throughout the day. 

We have a new entry fee structure for this event. Based upon the self navigation nature of the event and in an attempt to make it more affordable depending on what is important to you, we have made it possible to strip back your entry fee to £25.00 for the marathon, if you choose not to take a medal or t-shirt as part of your entry. You are of course able to take them all, if you so wish, but you must select them at registration and pay the required fee. We will not be able to issue additional medals and tees on race day should you change your mind.

Navigation will be via gpx file or written instructions which will be available for download when finalised nearer to event day. The event will be cupless, and you will need to provide a cup for your drinks during the day. You can purchase collapsible speedcups during registration or on race day for £2.50/cup.
