STA Level 2 Open Water Swimming Coaching - 3 days (Zoom/LRD)

For those who love open water and want to promote and share their passion by coaching swimmers in an open water environment, STA’s Open Water Swimming Coaching qualification will prepare learners for all aspects of open water swimming coaching including planning, coaching and evaluating open water swimming sessions.

This qualification also meets CIMSPA’s employer-led coach professional standard

Please note - these courses run for 3 days (9am - 5pm) - please ensure you can attend ALL sessions before booking

COST = £450 + booking fee (incls electronic version of the course manual)

Should you wish to have an additional hard copy of thr manual you can purchase one during registration. These will be sent out approximately a week before the course starts.

Theory element - 2 days via zoom

This course does not lend itself to being completed on a small device such as a mobile phone as there are a mix of exercises you will be asked to complete both individually and as a group.

There is a portfolio used to create lesson plans/risk assessment/evaluations.


Practical - 1 day onsite at Love Open Water London Royal Docks, E16 1AH


Assessment - Online tuition, portfolio and the practical open water training will all be evaluated along with the results of a Multiple Choice Question paper in order to pass this qualification

When you Get Your Qualification

  • You’ll be trained to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate open water swimming sessions in environments for which you have competence and experience in
  • Take swimmers into an open water environment for the first time, right through to training them for an event

How to Take Your Open Water Coaching Career Further

Once qualified, learners may wish to develop their knowledge in open water further by specialising in areas of open water swimming, such as cold-water or channel/long-distance coaching. These will be achievable through add-on CPD programmes with the STA.

Interested? Before You Get Started…

You’ll need to make sure you’ve met the following requirements before you attend your course:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold current membership of STA
  • Submit a CV detailing relevant open water swimming experience
  • Hold either a swimming teaching, coaching or triathlon coaching qualification which allows you to work unsupervised - ususally a Level 2 qualification.
    • Learners who do not hold any of the above qualifications must complete the open water swimming coaching online up-skill programme

The course cost includes your E-manual, hard copy versions can be purchased in addition.
