These events are swim / run format. There are 2 distances available at each of the 3 events - Main Sprint event - 750m swim & approx 5k run, or the shorter option - Super Sprint consisting of a 400m swim & approx 2.5k run.
Currently Events 1 & 3 are at Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex and are 750m/400m swim in the outdoor pool followed by an approx 5k/2.5k run on grass.
At Hillingdon Sports & Leisure complex, the swim is a 'Snake Swim', all swimmers going off at 20" intervals depending on their predicted swim speed to complete 15 lengths for the Sprint and 8 lengths of the pool for the Super Sprint.
The run is an out and back course, giving competitors plenty of opportunity to see the position of their opponents. This also gives your families plenty of opportunities to cheer you on!
Merchant Taylors Event 2 - Race specific details
Event 2 is at Merchant Taylors School lake & the swim is 875m/450m Open Water, following their established swim course. The run is an approx 5k for the Sprint race and 2.5k for the Super Sprint. The run is on an out and back course, which is completed twice for the Sprint race and once for the Super Sprint event, again with plenty of opportunities for supporters to cheer you on!. Entries will close one week before the date of the race (or beforehand if sold out). No late entries allowed.
Wetsuits and their use will be determined on the day, depending on water and air temperature. Pack them in case they are allowed.
You will be issued a number. The number should be worn on the front for the run, either using your own pins or a number belt. There were numerous changes inplemented in 2025 which will continure for 2026 as part of the lake will be open to the public for swimming. We will, once again, be self-contained in our own part of the lake and our run route is also exclusive for us with dedicated out and back laps. The swim start will be from the slipway approx 200m from the old swim/transition start area that was used in previous years. All will be explained and the race briefing an explained on maps at registration. Please take the time to take a look and familiarise yourself with both swim and run routes.
The swim for the super sptint is 450m and for the sprint its is 875m, in a clockwise direction with the exit at the start area, marked by flags. To help with sighting, marker buoys will be in place within the lake to indicate the course. This will also be covered during the event briefing - shortly before the start of each event. There will be canoes in the lakes and spotters on the bank with radios for safety
If entering the races individually then the prices will be £20 for BTF members and £25 for non BTF members.
