When will I receive further information about the event?

The detailed race information including maps, details on parking, registration, baggage and start times will be e-mailed out to participants approximately 10 days before the event date. This sometimes ends up in junk mail so please keep an eye out for it!

Will I get a medal?

Is there a bag drop?

The bag drop will be located inside the Boathouse; please ensure you have taken the bag drop label from your race number and attached it to your bag.

Is there parking?

Yes. Please follow the directions of the marshals to the car park by the boathouse as this will ensure a short walk to the event village. Please walk on the edge of grass alongside the path to reach the event village, keeping the path clear for other runners/duathletes on the course. This will be clearly sign posted on the day.

Are there toilets available on the course?

There are no toilets on the course but there will be several portable toilets for event use situated behind the boathouse.

Are there refreshments available at the event?

Dorney Lake Boathouse Café will be open and serving hot food and drinks. This is located right next to the event village.

Can my friends and family come and watch?

Accepted Answer

Yes, spectators are allowed to watch from the side of the course. If you are a spectator, please do not pass any cones or barriers. Due to parking restrictions, spectators are requested to turn up to the event in the same car as participants wherever possible.

What will I need to bring with me on event day?

Please ensure you bring a helmet, your bike (of course), any water/nutrition, and your wetsuit (if taking part in triathlon). Please also bring your phone so you can show your order confirmation when collecting your race pack. They will likely just ask for your name, but it’s best to have your order confirmation to hand just in case!

Will my race pack be posted?

Race numbers will be available to be collect on the morning of the event. Pack will not be posted.

Do I need a BTF permit?

Accepted Answer

You do need a permit to take part however if you are a Non-BTF member you can purchase a day licence when entering the event (please select Non-Member when purchasing your entry).

If you are already a BTF Member, please ensure that you complete your licence number accurately during the registration process. All licence numbers will be validated by BTF before the event and any participants with an invalid BTF licence number will be asked to show an online copy at registration.

How long before the start do I need to arrive?

Please arrive as early as possible – We would recommend arriving at least an hour before your start time to allow for time to walk from the car park, collect your race pack and get ready.

Are there accessible toilets and step free routes throughout the events?

At Dorney Lake Events, we have portable toilets located behind the boathouse. There is also a disabled toilet within the boathouse which the medical team will be able to give you access to on the day.

Are course surfaces safe for wheelchairs, crutches, or prosthetics?

Yes, the course is fully concrete paths.

Can I transfer my entry to another runner?

We don’t allow you to transfer your race number to another person, but you can transfer your race to another Droney Event using your portal on the booking system.

Yes, using your portal on the booking system, you can transfer your entry to another Dorney Lake Event.

Is my entry refundable if I can't do the race?

Accepted Answer

Dorney Lake Events are non-refundable but you can transfer your race to another day if you cannot make the one you have booked.

What will be in my race pack?

Accepted Answer

You will be given a white envelope with your race number on it. This will include 2 race numbers. A number must be worn visibly on your front for the run and on your back during the bike.

The numbers can be pinned to a top or if using a race belt a single number can be rotated from the front to the back. 2 numbered labels (one for the front of your helmet and one for the top tube of your bike).

You will also receive a timing chip with an ankle strap (This must be strapped to your LEFT ankle) and a Swim hat corresponding with your wave start.

Additional safety pins will be available at registration if required.

You will be asked to write your race number on the back of your left hand with a large black marker. This is an important safety activity in case of an emergency situation in the swim.

Is there a cut off time?

For all of our Dorney Lake Events, competitors must be finished by 1pm unless stated otherwise in the event info.

Upon entering you’ll be asked to provide an estimated swim time and you’ll be set off in waves depending on your time.

Can I race with a dog?

Running with a dog is prohibited however, spectating with a dog on a lead is allowed.

Can I wear headphones?

Headphones of any type are NOT ALLOWED during any stage of the triathlon.

Mobile phones must not be used while in the Transition area or during the race.

What is a transition area?

A transition area (also known as T1 and T2) is a secure area where athletes store their gear to switch between the disciplines.

Will my bike be safe in the transition area?

Our transition areas are secure and staffed at all times. You will not be allowed into a transition area without your race number and you will not be allowed to leave with a bike unless the bike number is the same as your race number.

Do I need a wetsuit?

Accepted Answer

Water temperature will be taken on the morning of the race and this will dictate whether wetsuits are mandatory, optional or prohibited. They are mandatory below a water temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and prohibited above 22 degrees Celsius. It is always advisable to bring your wetsuit just in case it is needed.

We don’t offer bike or wetsuit hire unfortunately – we require all participants to bring their own bikes/equipment.

Where are safe exit points if I need to withdraw? How do I signal without shouting?

Accepted Answer

In the swim, lay on your back with one arm in the air to signal a kayaker to come over. If it is on the bike or run just let the next marshal know.

How are hearing aids, glasses, or cochlear processors safely stored during the swim?

If you can provide them in a safe container, and then speak to any marshal at the event, we can arrange safe keeping for you.

How many bike laps for the sprint distance?

4 laps, please keep on the left-hand side of the course unless overtaking.

Do I need a special bike?

You can find all the British Triathlon rules here which will fully detail what’s permitted/not permitted in terms of equipment and kit.

Any fully functioning bikes can be used (mountain, road, racing, hybrid etc), but no E-bikes or things like Bromptons.

What if I get a flat tyre?

If you get a flat tyre at a Dorney Lake triathlon, you must fix it yourself using a pre-packed repair kit (spare tube, tyre levers, and CO2/pump). If you are unable to do this, you must walk your bike back to transition and find an event official.

Are TT bars allowed?

Drafting is not permitted at any time (rules on drafting can be found here), but all bikes are allowed (except E-bikes or Folding bikes are not officially allowed as they should have a crossbar) as long as they are safe to ride (brakes working, tyres pumped etc).

Are hazards (potholes, cattle grids, speed bumps) clearly marked in high contrast?

The paths used for Dorney Events are generally in good condition but if there does happen to be any damage to the paths, there will be warning signs and they may be sprayed with wash away spray paint.

Is there a safe, step-free mount/dismount zone separate from the standard mount line?

How many laps do I run for the 5K?

1 lap, due to the race being lapped for the other distances please stick to the left side of the path at all times

All of the aid station tables are at one height but they will be marshalled with people who will be there to hand out items.

Results are calculated by EventChipTiming.

Your time will be uploaded to their website within seconds of you crossing the finish line. There will be no ticket printer for times at the event but you can find your result immediately at: http://results.eventchiptiming.com/

We will have an official photographer at the event. The pictures of all the races will be made available for you at the following address:

You can leave your gear at the event village for as long as you like as long as it is collected by 1pm on the day of the event.
