Grundig 180 gravel race

Next Race: 02/06/2024

Newnham Park, Plympton, Plymouth, PL7 5BN

The Grundig 180 is a three-hour gravel race held at Newnham Park, Plymouth. This park boasts a storied history with its cross-country mountain biking trails dating back decades, most notably the Grundig World Cup races of the '90s. In homage to these historic races, we utilize some of the original tracks once ridden by legends like John Tomac, Ned Overend, David "Tinker" Juarez, and British national icon Nick Craig. Many of the '90s cross-country tracks still exist at Newnham in various forms and are incorporated into current events. While modern cross-country bikes may not fully honor these magnificent tracks, additional technical lines have been introduced over time to meet the demands of contemporary racing, preserving the venue's core essence. The emergence of the gravel riding genre has made these tracks ideal for our purposes, leading us to design a course that includes iconic Grundig sections and utilizes Newnham's extensive network of gravel roads.

The course spans 5.5 miles, featuring an abundance of hard-packed fire roads and singletrack. Participants can select from various categories based on age, and we've introduced a "retro bike" category for those who wish to experience the course on a vintage mountain bike, testing its mettle at this proven venue.

Categories will be assigned as follows

Under 16 under 18, sport, masters, vet, grand vet, super vet these will be assigned using your date of birth on the date of the race automatically. There are seperate male and female categories so please make sure to enter your details correctly on sign up.
