Question 1

Is there a cut-off time for the Leith Hill Half Marathon?

Accepted Answer

We do ask that all entrants make every effort to be back with us by 2pm (i.e. 3 hours running) so that:

our volunteer marshals don’t have to stand in the cold and sometimes the wet for more than 3 hours.
you can be presented with your medal at the finish and
you get a cooked breakfast at the Race HQ. (We have to let the kitchen staff go home at 2.15pm, as they will have been there from early morning cooking around 250 meals.)

Our Tail Sweep will be leaving the half way point on Leith Hill at around 12.40pm, which gives you 1 hour 40 mins to cover the 6.5 miles/10.5k to half way. If you get there by that time, he will not leave you behind on the way back. If you don’t get to him by the cut-off time, then you will need to turn for home when you see him coming down the hill towards you, if you want him to accompany you to the finish. However, we do provide a gpx file of the route (which is a simple ‘out and back’) for you to follow under your own steam if you wish. Question 2

Can I enter the Leith Hill Half Marathon on the day?

To be certain of a place, please enter online in advance as we have a maximum field of 250 and are usually sold out. However, there are always a few ‘no shows’ on the day for various reasons so please contact the organisers on info@leithhilltrailrunners.org to find out the likelihood of being one of the lucky 'on the day' entrants. If you are, please come to Registration early, bring cash or card (we have a Sum Up machine), fill in an ‘on the day’ entry form, and we will sort you out with a race number in time for the start.

Question 3

Do people use running poles in the Leith Hill Half Marathon?

Accepted Answer

People do not generally use running poles (they would be useful only on a couple of short sections). However, as long as you are careful with their use (it is a narrow course in parts and quite crowded at the start as 250 people run a loop and then head off up the hill) then there is no reason why you should not use them if it would make you feel more confident about entering.
