Can I ride my e-bike?

Yes - off-road e-bikes are welcome but you will need to have a second battery as there will be no charging points when we stay over in the middle of the desert

Gravel or mountain bike, which is best?

To be frank it’s a pretty even choice between a mountain bike and a gravel/cyclocross bike. There are sections where an MTB has a definite advantage over a gravel bike and vice versa.

Is my bike OK for this ride?

The route is best completed on the gravel/CX bike or a mountain bike.

Question 4

How fit do I need to be?

Accepted Answer

You'll need to be able to ride comfortably for 2 hours off-road at a steady pace.

Will I need to carry my luggage?

Accepted Answer

No, the elves in the support wagon will carry all your overnight bags, all you need to carry is what you need for the day.

Question 6

Is there mechanical support on the ride?

The expectation is that your bike will be in good working order, we'll be able to deal with most day-to-day mechanicals as they occur,  if we can't complete a trail-side repair, the support van will help you get to a local bike shop. or the next evening's stop - which ever is more applicable at the time.

What are the paths like?

Most of the off-road routes are pretty decent, however, be prepared for some stretches that may be more overgrown/technical than others.

Is their parking at the start?

Yes - there's free on-street parking over the weekend and on the bank holiday, otherwise the start point is in a strictly controlled parking zone, bummer.

Do I have to share a room?

No, some of us value a bit of privacy, but this comes with a price! You can book a single room supplement when booking.

Is food included in the cost

No, everyone has different requirements, we will be stopping at cafes and shops en route where you can stock up with what you need/want/crave for.

Will we be stopping during the day?

Big yes to this one, we'll be including a cafe stop mid-morning, decent pub lunch, and if time, a tea-time stop or at least a raid on the local Co-Op!

How fast will we be riding?

We'll be riding at a steady pace, roughly 7/9 miles per hour,  more experienced (read faster)  riders will be able to ride on ahead following the GPX route.

Will I get get a GPX file?

Accepted Answer

Yes, GPX files for each day will included in the Rider Info pack emailed to all riders the week before the ride starts.

Will we be riding as a group?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily, depends on the riders, the weather and how long people want to stop for lunch - everyone will have a GPX file of the route and can ride at their own pace.
