Question 1

How do I sign up to volunteer at a Schools Triathlon event?

Great, you’re interested in volunteering at an event. We would love you to join Team Restless. All you need to do is complete the registration form by visiting the Volunteer section of our website. 
Complete the necessary details and we will then be in touch by email to confirm your volunteering.

Question 2

What should I do if I would like to sign up a group to volunteer?

Accepted Answer

We only require one member of the group to complete the online registration form. This person will need to ensure they indicate on the form if they are part of a group and how many people they are signing up.

They will then become the main point of contact for the Schools Tri team with all communication being sent to their email address. They will also be responsible for collating important bits of information for us such as t-shirt size, shift availability and dietary requirements for the group.

Question 3

Can I bring a friend/family member to volunteer with me at the event?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the more the merrier. Please ask them to complete the registration form and we’ll ensure they are sent all the event volunteering details.

Question 4

Can I volunteer if I’m under 18 years old?

Accepted Answer

Yes, however, you will need to be accompanied by an adult while you are volunteering at the event.

Question 5

Do I need a DBS check?

Accepted Answer

No, we do not require you to have a DBS check to volunteer. All of our staff who work with volunteers have been given an enhanced DBS check as well as safeguarding training.
We ask all volunteers to refer to our Global Safeguarding Policy prior to the event. You will be required to read this policy when you sign up to volunteer and only volunteers who consent to this will be accepted by us.

Question 6

What do I do if I need to amend the information on my registration form?

No problem at all. If you’ve entered information incorrectly or would like to amend your details, please contact the Schools Tri team on volunteers@restlessdevelopment.org and provide information on the changes that need to be made.

Question 7

What do I do if I can no longer volunteer for the event?

Accepted Answer

Please contact us as soon as possible if you can no longer volunteer at the event. We rely on our volunteers to be able to put on such events so the earlier you can tell us the better.

Email volunteers@restlessdevelopment.org to inform us of any changes or use your point of contact information which you will be given in your volunteer brief 2 weeks prior to the event.

Question 8

When will I receive my volunteer briefing?

A volunteer brief containing detailed information about the event will be emailed to you 2 weeks prior to the event. Please make sure you read this in detail to familiarise yourself with the requirements on the day.

We will also conduct an in person brief on the day to ensure you feel confident with the role you have been assigned.

Question 9

What are the volunteer shift times?

We have three volunteer shift times which are available. All shifts will include a scheduled break during the day. The shift times are;
Morning shift - 08:00-13:00
Afternoon shift - 12:30-17:00
Full day - 08:00 - 17:00

Please bear in mind that these are approximate timings and allow for some flexibility throughout the day.

When do I need to arrive?

We always ask our volunteers to arrive before the participants to help prepare you for your role and ensure you are in position. You will be given your start time in the Volunteer Brief so please look out for this information in your emails. Let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to make your shift time.

Question 11

What do I need to wear?

Accepted Answer

All of our events are outdoors so please make sure you wear suitable clothing that is appropriate for the weather conditions. Take a look at the weather forecast ahead of the event day to ensure you come prepared. We all know what the British weather is like.
You will be on your feet a lot too, so comfortable footwear is also advised.

You will also be provided with a free volunteer t-shirt to wear on the day. You’ll need to make sure this is visible at all times when you are on shift.

When will I receive my volunteer t-shirt?

On the day we will provide you with your free volunteer t-shirt which you can take home after the event. We ask all our volunteers to wear their Team Restless t-shirt so that participants can easily identify you.

Question 13

Will the event still go ahead if the weather is bad?

Accepted Answer

Come rain or shine, the Schools Triathlon will still take place! We will ensure it is as accessible as possible to all and take all necessary steps to ensure it is as safe and enjoyable - whatever the weather.
You will be briefed at the start of your shift as to if there are any changes to the plans which were outlined in your original briefing.

If it looks set to be a chilly day please dress appropriately. Water will also be provided as well as first aiders to ensure the triathlon is safe, accessible and enjoyable for all.

Question 14

Will my expenses be reimbursed?

Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed with prior agreement from a member of staff and in line with our policies.
Once agreed you will need to keep all receipts as proof of purchase and submit your expense within 4 weeks of the purchase being made.

Question 15

Do I need to have experience to volunteer at the Schools Triathlon events?

Volunteering at our Schools Triathlon events are all inclusive so no previous experience is required. All that we ask is that you bring bags of energy and enthusiasm as the day can be long and you may be on your feet a lot.

Question 16

Where do I need to go when I arrive?

Accepted Answer

When you arrive at the event location, please make your way to the Restless Development tent which will be located in the Event Village. Please then make yourself known to a member of the Events Team who will be wearing a high viz and they will ensure you are checked in. You may then be directed to the volunteer point of contact who will be leading your volunteer brief.

Question 17

What will I be doing on the day?

You will be assigned a role on the day when you receive your in person volunteer brief. Please do try to be as flexible as possible as you may be required to do various roles throughout the day.

Some of the roles may include - meet and greet at the registration stand, car park or route marshal, bike pen or transition area, or handing out medals and goody bags to our excited finishers.

If you have specific needs or requests that we should be made aware of ahead of the event, please let us know by emailing volunteers@restlessdevelopment.org and we will be able to take this into consideration when assigning you your role.

Question 18

Will there be refreshments?

We provide all our volunteers with complimentary refreshments on the day however this will depend on the time of day you are volunteering with us.

If you are volunteering for a full day you will receive a complimentary lunch and a hot or cold drink.
If you are volunteering for half a day you will receive complimentary snacks and water throughout your shift.

All of our events will have catering vans on site which you will be able to make use of. Please consider your own refreshments throughout the day if you need them and ensure you take your break at the agreed times.
If you have any specific dietary requirements, please make us aware of these when you register so we can ensure something is available for you.

Question 19

Will there be parking available?

Yes, all of our event sites have car parks available however we do encourage people to use public transport where possible to reduce the amount of cars onsite.

Question 20

Will there be somewhere I can leave my belongings?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we will have a designated, secure space available for you to leave your belongings at all of our events. Please ensure you travel as light as possible and ensure that you are vigilant of your personal property whilst volunteering with us.
