Question 1

Do I have to wear a wetsuit?

Accepted Answer

This depends on the water temperature on the day. We follow the guidelines set out by British Triathlon Federation and if the water temperatures are adequate (above 16 degrees Celsius) we will allow for the option. Again should the temperatures be high (above 24 degrees Celsius) then wetsuits are forbidden.

Anything below 16 degrees Celsius wetsuits are compulsory.

We will only be able to determine this on the day of the race but will have a good idea in the days leading up to it.

Question 2

Are you able to wear the same shoes for the bike and run?

Accepted Answer

Yes by all means. If you're using normal flat pedals and want to use the same shoes to run in there are no restrictions for this.

People who are regulars to triathlon would usually have clip in cycle specific shoes and so they need to change these in transition. These are not necessary for you to get started and you can wear the same trainers no problem.

You can also have a spare pair in transition if you want to change them anyway. Sometimes weather can play a part and putting on dry trainers and socks for the run can be a nicer feeling. Completely up to you.

Question 3

Will there be Marshall's to assist on transitions?

Accepted Answer

We will have marshals in and around transition making sure everyone is safe and follows the rules and correct routes. These are not allowed to help you with you equipment. However, this is a rule we are flexible with particularly for new people to the sport. I have received help getting my wetsuit unzipped at many events. So don't worry, there are people there who will help and ensure you know what you're doing, where you're going and if you get stuck in a wetsuit help you get out.

Transition is after all the 4th discipline to triathlon and comes with it's own challenges.

Ultimately, we want everyone to have a good experience of the events and come back so our team will support as much as possible.

Question 4

Does the swim have to be freestyle, or can it be a stroke of my choice?

Accepted Answer

You can swim any stroke other than back stroke. This is due to the safety procedures for swimmers in difficulty. These are required to float on their back and raise an arm for help. By doing backstroke it can look like you are in difficulty.

Most people use freestyle or breast strokes.

Question 5

Can you be ‘disqualified’ if you get off your bike?

Accepted Answer

There are no disqualifications for getting off the bike. There are plenty of events where the hills are too much for a lot of people and you often see them pushing the bike up. What we will say though, is that as the course is open to other traffic if you were to get off the bike at any point do so in a safe manner and make sure you aren't in traffic. Your safety is of utmost importance to us at all times. I am sure you will be fine though as there are marshalls out on course as well who all want everyone to have a great experience and will support and help you.

Question 6

When will I receive the race day information?

Accepted Answer

The detailed race information including maps, details on parking, registration, baggage and start times will be e-mailed out to participants approximately 10 days before the event date.

This sometimes ends up in junk mail so please keep an eye out for it!

Question 7

Will I get a medal?

Accepted Answer

All finishers will receive a custom made, race themed medal at the end of the race.

Question 8

Can I wear headphones to listen to music while I race?

Accepted Answer

In ear and over ear headphones are strictly not permitted at any Uprevail event.

Bone conducting headphones are permitted, unless stated on the event page.

(ALL REGISTERED BRITISH TRIATHLON EVENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO WEAR ANY TYPE HEADPHONES – INCLUDING IN THE TRANSITION AREA BEFORE AND AFTER THE EVENT)

Is there cut off times?

Accepted Answer

We are extremely generous with time. We want to see as many people finish and achieve their goals as possible. All while trying our very best to ensure everyone receives the same experience from the event team.

Times stated are accrued times from the start of the last wave.

Question 10

Can I get a refund if I can't make the event?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunatley we are unable to offer refunds as per our terms and conditions which are agreed upon at check out. Sections 7 and 8 refer to refunds.

You can purchase refund protect insurance at check out which will offer you more options should you require cancellation. We encourage you to read the terms and conditions of this offer before purchasing. Refund Protect is a third party and offered ad an option and not mandatory.

7. Cancellation and Force Majeure
7.1 The organizers reserve the right to cancel, postpone, or modify the Event due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to severe weather conditions or government restrictions.
7.2 In the case of cancellation, participants may be offered a partial refund or entry into a rescheduled Event at the organizer's discretion.

8. Refunds and Transfers
8.1 Registration fees are non-refundable except in cases of event cancellation as per Section 7.
8.2 Participant substitutions or transfers are permitted only upon prior approval and may be subject to an administrative fee, see Section 3.2.
8.3 Participants have the right to purchase ‘refund protect’ insurance at an additional cost at the point of checkout for each ticketed event. This service is not provided by UPrevail Events, and UPrevail Events do not benefit financially from this.

Question 11

Can I get a late entry?

Accepted Answer

Short and sweet. No.

Once the deadline has passed and entries have closed we do not take late entries.

If the event fills early a waiting list will be activated for filling any places which are deferred.

Waiting list entries can not be added after the closing date either.

We leave 2 weeks before the event date to tie everything up with admin, the governing bodies, suppliers and our staff. Where closing dates fall close to payday we try our best to ensure we give the extra time and this is reflected in the closing date.

Please do not email us asking for a late entry - we can not do it.
