Question 1

Can I defer my entry to next year?

Accepted Answer

No, but you can cancel up until the date specified in the terms and conditions for a partial refund.

Question 2

Are there age category prizes ?

Accepted Answer

Sorry, no. 
Giving out lots of prizes would increase our costs and we work really hard to keep our entry costs and plastic waste as low as possible. We also commission local artists each year to create our trophies for us, making them a little more special.

Question 3

I can no longer race, can I cancel and get a refund?

Yes to both. 
You can log in to your profile and cancel your entry up to the cutoff date specified in the terms and conditions. Cancelations after this date will need to be performed by emailing events@kltri.co.uk

We are triathletes ourselves and know just how dissapointing it can be to withdraw from a race for any reason, especially injury, and being told there is no refund is like being kicked when you are already down. Our club absorbs all 3rd party costs and payment fees, so as much as we would like to, we just cannot issue a 100% refund even if we could fill your space. What we do offer a sliding scale of partial refunds of 75% and then 50% until as late as possible before race day, after which it is genuinely very difficult, time consuming and/or costly to administer. If you purchased a BTF race pass through us, we will organise the refund instead of you having to contact the BTF directly.

Do I get a refund if you cancel the event?

Hopefully, yes.
We were very annoyed ourselves when races would not offer us any sort of refund during the Covid-19 pandemic. We also had to cancel our 2020 race and offered everyone a 100% refund and asked individual entrants if we could deduct the payment processing fees or not. Fortunately a few kind people also declined their refund and both Alive Leisure and the borough council were very very kind, meaning we didn't make as much a loss as we otherwise would. Our T&Cs state we will attempt to refund as much as possible in the event of a cancellation, but in reality we will always strive for 100% even if it means a small loss.

Is there a bag store?

No bags are not allowed in transition during the race due to very limited space, but we do have an area in the ice rink for storage that is not available to the public. We do not have any secure storage though.

Can my fans watch me swim?

Sorry, there is no public access to the pool area during the swim.

Doo I get a medal for finishing

Question 8

I don't have a £10million carbon bike weighing 1gram, does that matter?

Accepted Answer

If you take a look at photos from previous years, you will see that every type of bike is suitable so long as it is race legal (Mainly the wheels stay attached, the brakes work and the handle-bar ends are plugged). Generally speaking, someone who is fast on a bike is fast on any bike so just enjoy riding the bike you have - bike envy is an unfortunate side effect of triathlon however, which never fully goes away but develops in to wheel envy. You have been warned !

TT or Road bike ?

The course is not draft legal, so either. The prevailing wind is from the SW so you can expect a headwind along the front, but there are no particularly long straights so it doesn't benefit one over the other.

Question 10

Is there an aid station on the run ?

Accepted Answer

No, but there will be limited water at the lighthouse turn to refill your own bottle, so please take one with you on the run.
There will be water and a few nibbles at the finish line.

Question 11

What do I do with my inhailer and glasses during the swim?

There will be an opportunity immediately prior to your swim start to put anything you need after your swim on a table near the swim exit. 
Please remember to collect them on your way to transition though !

Question 12

Do I need a trisuit

Accepted Answer

Definitely not, but it can make your race more enjoyable because there is less faff in transition.
There is a no-nudity rule throughout the race, so no chance to change out of your swimming costume. You will typically pull on a t-shirt in T1 and set off on the bike and then not change for the run. Take a look at previous race photos and you will see that not everyone is in lycra.

Do I wear underwear under a trisuit?

We all wanted to ask this question and chose to google it rather than ask anyone. 
No you don't because it will get wet, stay wet and can cause chaffing. Trisuits are designed with a thin but adequate seat pad that will dry very quickly compared to normal bike shorts. 
Many women opt to wear a sports bra underneath because most trisuits don't have enough support.

When can I collect my bike after the race?

Due to limited space, transition will be closed once you finish until the last competitor is out on their run. You will need your race number to get back in to transition and marshals will be checking you leave with your own bike, so do not remove any stickers.

Question 15

Can my friend / parent help me set up my transition

Accepted Answer

No.
Tristart (age8) and visually impaired paratriathletes have to set up their own equipment, so we are sure you will be fine. If you have any problems, club marshals in transition to help or ask a fellow competitor - triathletes are a friendly bunch who are always happy to help.
If you have any specific difficulties or needs though, just let us know BEFORE the race either during online registration or by emailing events@kltri.co.uk and we will try and make sure you have the support you need.

Is there free parking?

No, and Hunstanton parking attendants are very diligent.
There is parking information at the bottom of the event page and there are some places to park for free but please check ALL signs because there are often restrictions on overnight parking which would affect you due to the ealy start.

Question 17

Surely you mean PM ?

Accepted Answer

Nope, it is definitely an AM start.
Most triathlons are held in the early morning to avoid the worst of the traffic on the roads. On the plus side, you will be packed up in plenty time for a well-deserved lunch.

I'm really slow, will anyone still be around when I finish?

Accepted Answer

Sunny Hunny is primarily a race for novices and we actively encourage participation over racing.  The fastest swimmers start last so most competitors finish at roughly the same time and the awards ceremony only happens after the last person finishes, so if you are unlucky enough to get a puncture and be the last out on the run, you may have the town Mayor chearing you across the line. Our volunteer marshals will be encouraging you around the course too, so you may well surprise yourself.

Where can I buy a trisuit?

Don't go out and spend hundreds of pounds on a top-of-the-line brand for this event, although we can't stop you. One of the best performing suits for the price is actually available as an Aldi special buy. You will normally see a one-piece for shorter distances and are usually fitted with a thinner seat pad, making them less noticeable on the run.
The nearest triathlon shop (TriHarder) is in Dereham if you want to try any on as sizing can sometimes be tricky. We would suggest at least wearing it in your bath (without any bubble bath) before race day, so you know what it feels like when wet, or better still at your local pool.

Question 20

My bank is asking me to authorise a payment of £0. Why?

The BTF's new race pass system requires participants to also register with (and pay) the BTF directly. 
In order to avoid the extra hassle for you, we are now using a BTF-Approved third-party event booking system which passes on both the information and payment to the BTF in the background and that requires making a split payment (One to KLTC for the event, and another to the BTF for the race pass). Unfortunately, there is an issue with split payments that results in the banking authorisation system displaying £0 instead of the total. The basket total immediately before payment is correct however, and it will show up on your bank statement as two seperate payments for the correct amounts. 
The reduced race entry fee when you buy a race pass is also because the BTF force us to pass on their own transaction fee to you, so we drop our own fees to avoid that. There is another FAQ all about that too :(
