Thames 20

RACE INFORMATION:

Paced 20 mile race along the River Thames Towpath on Sunday 5th March 2017. Start at 0800 Hrs. Hosted by Clapham Chasers Running & Triathlon Club.

Course Details:

Flat, traffic free and mostly off road route along the south side of River Thames. From Race HQ (start and finish) at Bishop's Park, runners cross Putney Bridge and trace a 10 mile out and back route to Richmond. The terrain varies and is uneven in stretches. Primarily gravel with mud in places and limited lengths of footpath. Normal road or trail shoes will be ideal.

Each mile point will be marked. In the event of unexpected maintenance or flooding on the route, well-marked short diversions may be introduced.

Runners will need to keep left at all times since the course will be open to the public who retain right of way. For Mile One and at several other points along the course, boathouse users will have priority and runners must give way.

Registration:

After registering online and making payment, entrants will receive a confirmation email.

  • Race entries close at midnight 18/02/17. 
  • Race packs will be posted week commencing 20/02/17. If these have not arrived by 27/02/17, please email thamesriverside20@gmail.com
  • Replacement race packs and transfers from the waiting list after 18/02/2017 must be collected at race HQ. Registration will open 0700 Hrs. Runners with race packs DO NOT need to register on race day.
  • No entries will be accepted on race day.
  • No refunds will be issued after close of race entries.

Run start, format and cut-off time:

Runners should arrive at race HQ NO LATER than 0730 Hrs. The race will start at 0800 Hrs prompt.

The first pace group will run at sub 7:00 mins per mile. Due to licence restrictions, Mile One must be run behind an official pacer, running at approximately 6:30 mins per mile. No pacing will be provided for this pace group after Mile One.

Dedicated pace groups will depart at 2 mins intervals (7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30 and 10:00 mins per mile). Entrants will be asked to select a pace group when registering online. Runners must start in the correct pace group. Otherwise, recorded finish times will be incorrect. It will NOT be possible to change pace group on race day. Pacers will marhsal runners into pace groups prior to the race start.

Mile One crosses Putney Bridge. The route then traces the south towpath of the Thames. Runners must stay behind lead pacers until Mile One has been cleared. Pacers will indicate when this point has been reached. After Mile One, runners may choose to run at your their own pace or with their pace group. Pacers will be on hand at the race start to assist.

Due to licence conditions, race cut-off time will be 1300 Hrs. Clapham Chasers are an inclusive club and run TR20 for runners of all levels. Runners who are unable to meet the race cut-off time, please email thamesriverside20@gmail.com

Pace Groups:

Baggage:

There will be covered and supervised baggage storage at race HQ. Bags are left at runners' own risk. Race packs will include a bag tag which should be afixed prior to arrival at race HQ.

Marshals:

The course is straighforward and ideal for training. Marshals and direction arrows will be employed on the course. Runners should not leave the towpath unless directed to do so by a marshal or pacer.

Drink stations:

Cupped energy drinks and water will be provided every 3 miles along the route (3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 17) and at race HQ. Runners are welcome to refill drink bottles at any of these points.

Timing:

The run will start in ascending pace groups (i.e. sub 7 mins per mile to 10 mins per mile) at two minute intervals. Runners will need to ensure they are in the correct pace group and at the start on time, otherwise recorded finish times will be incorrect. It will NOT be possible to change pace group on race day.

Toilets:

Public toilets will be open at race HQ (start and finish). These are 5 mins walk from the registration area. The public toilets used for previous TR20 races at Buccleuch Gardens (just after 9 miles ) have been closed by the Council. However, there are cafes, bars and restaurants along the route.

First Aiders:

Professsional and volunteer bicycle first aiders will be located on the course.  An ambulance crew will be located at race HQ. If runners are in need of assistance, at any time during the race, they should ask a fellow runner to inform the next marshal or cyclist. Runners must record emergency contact information on the reverse of their race numbers.

Results:

Results will be published online (www.claphamchasers.co.uk/TR20results) shortly after the race.

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to the first senior male, first senior female, first male veteran (40) and first female veteran (35).  Runners are not entitled to more than one prize.

The race is run under British Athletics (formerly UK Athletics) Rules and on licence number 2017-25987

Post Race Cakes:

As long established tradition dictates, to reward runners' magnificent efforts, the Clapham Chasers baking squad will be conjuring up a spread of delicious post race cakes for runners. Voluntary cash contributions will be donated to Sport Relief.

Headphones:

In the interests of safety, the use of headphones by runners is not permitted. The Race Director reserves the right to disqualify any runner failing to observe this important restriction.

Litter

Clapham Chasers are responsible for keeping the course clean and litter reflects badly on the club and may affect our ability to organise TR20 in the future. Please do not litter the course with gel wrappers, drink bottles etc. This will result in disqualification.
