Collecting Your Race Number

Your race number will NOT be posted out to you.
This means no lost numbers and saves on event costs, enabling more to be donated to charity.

You can either collect your race number from The Running Hub in the days leading up to the event or collect it on the morning of the race.

OPTION ONE: Collecting your race number from The Running Hub

Your race number and t-shirt (if you have ordered one) will be available to collect from The Running Hub on the following dates & times:

Thursday 25th February: 10:00 - 17:00
Friday 26th February: 10:00 - 19:00 (note, special late opening!)
Saturday 27th February: 10:00 - 17:00

Up to two hours of free parking can be found in Yew Tree Road, opposite The Running Hub.

OPTION TWO: Collecting your race number from Race HQ on the morning of the race

If you are collecting your race number and t-shirt on the morning of the event, you should head over to Race HQ in the main sports hall between 07:00 - 08:30 to make your collection.

Whilst we will have a fantastic team on site to facilitate collections, we still ask that you please allow plenty of time to make your collection before the race begins.

Please do not race without an official race number as, for H&S reasons, we need to know exactly who is on the course and you will not receive an official time without one.

You may collect race numbers for other runners but, if possible, please bring their acceptance email with you to ensure that the correct number is issued.

Do not allow anyone else to run using your race number. It is against UKA rules and will result in disqualification. You can self manage a transfer to another runner via the Nice Work website or your emailed booking confirmation until 10:00 on the Friday before race day.

Please remember to complete your medical information on the reverse of your number before you race. This is a life-saving racing requirement for your own safety.

Question 5

Collecting Your Preordered T-Shirt

If you have pre-ordered a t-shirt, then it can be collected pre or post race, but you MUST have your race number in order to race.

Please note, a LIMITED number of t-shirts will be available to purchase on the day from Race HQ on a first come, first served basis.

Question 6

Bag Drop

Accepted Answer

There is a supervised baggage area available at Race HQ for the duration of the race. Please note that, valuables will be left at your own risk. Please use the issued baggage tag (affixed to your race number) and fix it securely to your bag.

Please leave sufficient time to drop your bag and get to the start line which is approximately a five minute walk away from Race HQ.

Parking

There are numerous parking locations allocated to the event and no designated car park is more than a 10 minute walk from Race HQ.

Further information about all parking options will be sent out in the full race instructions in the lead up to the event.

Please note that all designated race-day car parks close at 1pm.
The car park at Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre at Race HQ will be closed to runners on the morning of the race so you will need to make alternative parking arrangements.

Question 9

Toilets

Accepted Answer

Toilets are available at Race HQ and at the finish area. Please use the toilet facilities in good time before the race start. We will also be placing additional toilets along the course, eliminating unnecessary stress and keeping you focused on your personal best. Anybody seen urinating in residents' gardens or public spaces will be disqualified from the race.

Headphones

Only bone conducting headphones are permitted at this event.
If you are seen to be wearing in-the-ear or over-the-ear headphones by our Race Team or an England Athletics Adjudicator, then you are at risk of being disqualified.

The race starts on St Johns Road and finishes in the car park of Tunbridge Wells Grammar School.

About the course
The course is one of the most testing and picturesque on the racing calendar. The one lap circuit through some of the finest countryside in Kent includes a few notable hills, among which, Spring Hill (on the approach to Fordcombe) should be mentioned in particular.

Please note, there are two speed humps on the finishing straight so beware!! Also, there are inevitably some potholes on the course, so please take care throughout the race.

Exclusions
As this is a hilly course, we regret that it is not suitable for wheelchair athletes. Dogs or buggies will not be permitted, and athletes must not be accompanied or followed by others on cycles.

Your route & marshals...
Your course will be clearly marked using large route arrows and directional cones, as well as being marshalled throughout. Please listen and obey all marshal instructions given. All marshals will remain in place until stood down by the sweep marshal.

Traffic management & road closures to keep you safe
As the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon takes place on the roads in and around the town, we have worked with the council to put in place some traffic management measures for your safety. Road Safety
The safety of all participants is our prime objective and you are required to run on the left hand side of the road at all times as the adjacent carriageway on most of the course is open to traffic.

By not following this requirement, you will be putting the future of the race in jeopardy.
Please follow any instructions given to you by a Race Marshal at all times. Mobile marshals will also be accompanying the race. Failure to comply with marshal instructions may lead to your disqualification.

Cut-off Time

Runners taking part should be able to complete the course within 3 hours.

Pacers

Accepted Answer

We will have pacers at the race running in ten minute intervals between 1hr 30 minutes and 2hrs 50 minutes. We will have one male pacer and one female pacer for each interval.

We always welcome anyone that would like to cheer on our runners and join the good spirit of the race by lending their encouragement and support.

Kit & Footwear

Your normal running clothing is normally sufficient for this race, but competitors should be mindful that the event could experience variable weather conditions and dress accordingly. As a general piece of advice it is not advisable to run any race in new running shoes. The course is all on-road, so normal running shoes only are required; there is no off-road element.

Please do NOT drop litter. Bins will be provided, so please dispose of any litter correctly or take it home with you.

Water Stations

There are water stations on the route at 3, 5.4, 8, 9.5 & 11.3 miles, and at the finish.

We would like to thank Katie Allen Sports Nutrition for supplying nutritional supplements at 5.4 miles (before the hill!)

Whilst we will ensure that water stations are well supplied, runners should ensure they are fully hydrated and also consider carrying their own water.

First Aid & Fitness

First Aid Provision:
First Aid will be in attendance for the duration of the race.
Should you feel unwell at any stage of the race, please do not hesitate to wave down a marshal and they will call First Aid for you and ensure you are well cared for.

If you are unable to make your way to the next marshal point, please advise a fellow runner and ask them to notify a marshal of your location.

Your Health & Fitness
Before attempting to race we ask that you make sure you are 100% fit to do so. If you feel unwell or are carrying an injury, we would strongly recommend not taking part and only return to running once you feel fully fit to do so. If you are unsure if you are fit to run, please speak to your doctor.

Question 20

If you drop out of the race

We will have a mini-bus on the course to pick up anyone that may have dropped out and return the to Race HQ. They will be following behind the last runner.

We need to be fully aware who is on the course, so for health & safety reasons, please let the nearest marshal or one of the race registraton team at Race HQ know if you drop out of the race.

Medals & Prizes

Prize Presentation

Weather permitting, the presentation will take place approximately 45 - 60 minutes after the first runner has crossed the finish line and when all the prize winners have arrived home. Please listen for announcements.

Live and provisional results will be available on the Nice Work website after the race. We will also email them to you on the afternoon of the race. If you have any questions regarding the live results, please ensure that you have emailed this through to us by midday on the following Thursday. Any changes submitted after this time will not be included in the final results.

Age Restrictions

England Athletics govern the age restrictions for this race.
On the day of the race, you must be 17 years old or over to participate.

Can I walk the event?

Whilst many of our runners walk some brief sections of the race to catch breath, this race is designed for runners and is not suitable for walking the entire distance.

Deferrals

Unfortunately, deferrals to next years race are not supported by this event.
However, we do offer a deferral option if you are pregnant or postpartum. If you are unable to take part because you are pregnant or postpartum, you can defer your place to the following year’s running of the Tunbridge Wells Half marathon event. Please just send an email to info@nice-work.org.uk

Transfers to another runner

We are pleased to let you know that transfers to another runner are possible for this race.

Transfer Deadline:
10:00 on the Friday before race day.

Transfer Costs:
A transfer to another runner can be made free of charge.

How to self-manage your transfer:
Transfers are something that the system allows you to self manage by working through the following steps:

1. Access your booking via the 'View Booking' link in your booking confirmation email.
2. Follow steps through to 'Manage Booking & 'Transfer to someone else' and you will be guided through managing this transfer by the system.
3. Once you have entered the new runner's email, a transfer notification will be sent to them and they will need to accept the place and enter their full details to complete the process.
4. If you have already received your race bib prior to the transfer taking place, you will need to ensure that you give this to the new runner.

If you have any problems then please don't hesitate to let us know and we will be happy to help.

Refunds

Refunds are not offered against any race entry fees for illness, injury, or any other reason. In much the same way as you would not expect a refund for a theatre ticket if you were unable to attend, we are unable to offer refunds for race entries sold.

Your space in the Quiet Zone can be reserved once you have booked your place in the Half Marathon - you will receive an email.

A more inclusive Hendy Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon. We know running is more than just crossing the finish line - it's about feeling included, supported, and valued.

Our Quiet Zone is is a quieter, smaller space where up to 35 runners can spend time before the Half Marathon starts at 9am. Designed for participants who experience anxiety or sensory differences, this space provides a calm environment to prepare for the race. It's open from 07:30 and is also closer to the start line.

It includes a mini-HQ with everything you need in one space in the run-up to the race:
