UK Running Series is proud to present the second event of the GREATER GLASGOW CHALLENGE, set to take place in Whitelee Windfarm, East Renfrewshire, Scotland on Sunday 24 April 2022.

ABOUT WHITELEE WINDFARM

Whitelee is the UK's largest onshore windfarm, located on Eaglesham Moor just 20 minutes from central Glasgow. Its 215 turbines generate up to 539 megawatts of electricity, enough to power over 350,000 homes. Whitelee has become an eco-tourist attraction aided by an on-site visitor centre. The visitor centre is host to an interactive exhibition room, cafe, shop and education hub. It was officially opened to the public in September 2009. The windfarm has opened up access to a network of over 130 km of trails for cyclists, ramblers and horse riders.

GREATER GLASGOW CHALLENGE

This is the second event of the 7-race series covering the counties of Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire. The event is limited to 150 runners and is guaranteed to sell out quickly. All finishers will receive a bespoke medal and there will be awards for the Top 3 finishers in Open, Masters and Junior races. Our aid stations are vegetarian and vegan-friendly and we follow a strict COVID-19 protocol.

DISTANCES:

Adults (Age 16+): HM, 10K & 5K
Juniors (Age 9-15): 3K

COST:

HM: £25.00 (Affiliated)
10K: £17.00 (Affiliated)
5K: £12.00 (Affiliated)
3K: £9.00

For non-affiliated adult runners, there is an additional £2 fee.

Registration desk will open at 8:15AM and close 15 minutes before the start of each race.

START TIMES:

09:00 AM: Half Marathon
10:00 AM: 10K
10:15 AM: 5K
10:20 AM: 3K

The course will officially close at 12 noon for all distances.

BIB COLLECTION:

Registration booth will open at 8:15AM and will close 15 minutes before the start of each race.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

1) Aid Station at the Start / Finish.
2) Race Bib.
3) First aid support.
4) Course marshals.
5) Public liability insurance.
6) Custom-designed finisher medal for all distances.

In an effort to make our events as environmentally friendly as possible, all our events are cup-less. We will provide water but you will need to bring your own refillable bottle.

AWARDS:

There will be awards for Top 3 finishers in the following categories.

1) Top 3 Open (Under 40s) Male / Female in HM, 10K & 5K
2) Top 3 Masters (Over 40s) Male / Female in HM, 10K & 5K.
3) Top 3 (Male / Female) in 3K Juniors (Age 9-15).

Award ceremony will take place at approximately 11:00 AM.

COURSE:

The course is a 5K out and back loop of gravel path which is conducive for all season running. The predominantly traffic free route is undulating and wide enough for runner traffic both ways.

21.1K: One short out and back loop of 1.1K, followed by 4 full out and back loops of 5K.
10K: Two out and back loops of 5K.
5K: One out and back loop of 5K.
3K: One out and back loop of 3K.

Toilets are located beside the Start / Finish line, near the registration area.

There is free parking available on site but we always encourage our participants to car share wherever possible.

FREE RACE PLACES:

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS:

Should the event need to be cancelled, postponed or rescheduled due to any reason beyond our control, all entries will be automatically transferred to the following local event. Due to the expenses incurred in organising these events, we are only able to offer a transfer and are unable to offer any form of refund.
