Question 1

Can I run with my dog?

Accepted Answer

No, unfortunately we can not allow you to run with your dog, this is due to insurance, permission and  risk factors.

Question 2

Can I cook in my tent with a stove or have a fire pit at the event?

Accepted Answer

No sorry, strict fire regulations in the Forest mean we cant do that but at the SBYU we will have food vendors from Saturday 8am to Sunday 8pm where you can puchase hot food and drinks or you or your crew can visit the shops and cafes at the main High Lodge centre a few minutes walk away.

After 8pm Sunday we wil have an area where you can prepare hot food in a safe location.

Please respect this rule as our permission to use the site is at risk if we don't.

Question 3

Can we have pets in the camping area?

Accepted Answer

No unfortunately not everyone likes dogs, cats or Llamas!

We have this rule for hygiene and safety reasons, 400 people and dogs and dog poo/wee don't mix well.

Please ask crews or spectators to stay out of the camping areas or start/finish funnel.

Question 4

Will there be power?

Accepted Answer

No it's a field in a forest, we will have a charging station for runners to charge phones if needed but space is limited and it's not for crews to charge iPads and games machines. Please plan to bring powerbanks or similar but no generators.

Can I bring a generator for power?

Accepted Answer

No, we have our own generators but they will be away from people and fuels stored safely but we can not have fuel and generators in camping areas due to fire risk.

Question 6

Will there be phone signal?

Accepted Answer

Signal can be patchy depending on network used but walking around with your arm in the air may help or at least give us a chuckle!

Question 7

Can we go out onto the course to spectate as they are running?

Accepted Answer

NO, Backyard rules forbid any kind of support on the course including moral support. You risk your runner being disqualified.

Can we use poles?

No Backyard rules forbid poles

How strict are rules for completing a lap?

Accepted Answer

59:59 is ok, if the clock ticks over to the next hour even by one second you are out!

Question 10

Why do I have to ring that stupid bell of shame and cross my own name off if I DNF?

Accepted Answer

Because I have little pleasure in my life and it amuses me, or it could be that when you announce a DNF we all get to hear it and can cheer you. You decide which of those is true!

Question 11

Can I drop stuff off at the camping area with my car then park it after?

Accepted Answer

No, there is no space to drop off stuff to the camping area. Please park the car properly then carry or wheel stuff over. We recomend a little festival trolley.

Question 12

Can we camp or set up tents on Friday night?

Accepted Answer

No, we are setting up still on Friday and cant have runners onsite until Saturday.

Question 13

Transferring your place to someone else

Accepted Answer

If you are unable to attend an event, you may be able to transfer your place to someone else. Simply view your booking via the link in your confirmation email and, if the event organiser is currently permitting such transfers, click to Transfer to Someone Else.

You will be asked to enter the name and email address of the intended recipient - together with any custom message you wish to add - and on completion of the booking invitation sent to the recipient, your entry will be removed.

Question 14

Will there be some shelter for the weather while waiting between loops?

Accepted Answer

Yes we will have several large gazebo's you can hide under if it's very sunny or wet. There won't be enough space to hold everybody but most people will have crews and their own gazebo/tent to shelter in.

Question 15

What should I bring?

Accepted Answer

We recomend you bring a small tent, table and chair as a minimum. Plus any spare foods, clothing and anything else you may need such as powerbanks etc.

We will have some spare chairs and tables put out in a communal area for runners to use but we vcan't do that for 400 people and these spaces should be proritised for the overseas runners that are travelling on planes to the even that cant bring large items like chairs etc to the event.

We can not guarantee or reserve spots or chairs and tables.

Question 16

Can we reserve a pitch near the corral or a chair or table in the covered areas?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately not, We advise you to be as self sufficient with kit as possible and bring your own equipment.

When you arrive onsite you will be diredcted by the team on where to pitch your tent, it's fairest to all to be pitched by us on a 1st come 1st served basis and you will be spaced out to allow for fire safety and toilet access lanes. If you obstruct any access we will ask you to move to another location.
