My first trail one I chose the tough one!

I had a fantastic time loved the vibe! From start to finish very welcoming for my first race I shall be back every year from now on!

Good run, good scenery

Definitely a good run over the Downs. Starting feel a little ripped off by the cheap, crappy, balsawood 'medals' these days. Pretty much all events are jumping on the bandwagon now, issuing them, citing 'sustainability', where in reality, they're just cheaper. Personally, I don't want a buff, a t-shirt, a water bottle, or a protein ball (!), I'd rather have a decent (metal!) medal showing my achievement!

Tough race but great fun with amazing volunteers

I’ve run this 4 times now (2 full / 2 half). It’s pretty challenging (ouch that first hill, Humm and the others!) but left me with memories for life. Thanks loads to the cake bakers and marshals. Probably the best aid stations / food in any run I’ve ever done. I’ll be back for a hat trick of fulls soon!

Friendly, well organised

There were a couple of points on the 5 mile route that were not marshalled or signed. Tricky at junctions.

Great scenery. Challenging route. Mixed organisation.

Beautiful but challenging route over the South Downs. 6 hrs sounds a lot but definitely tight for a beginner or someone wanting to take it easy. Allowing an 8 o'clock wave, maybe on the understanding that you wouldn't be eligible for a place could help. The final finishers were given a great welcome, but the vast majority had already gone home. To enforce a halfway (3hr) cut-off over 15 miles into a marathon is utterly bizarre. Telling runners who are averaging a whole minute per mile UNDER the cut-off pace that if they continue it is unsupported?! And having the tail-runner setting off IN FRONT of active participants?? Aid stations were a mix of ones manned by runners and ones manned by Rotary volunteers and there was a stark contrast. The Rotary volunteers were all lovely but clearly not attuned to needs of runners. Standing watching in bemusement as sweaty runners struggle to open flasks etc. Reducing plastic use is great, running out of water at 18 miles isn't. Perhaps remove all plastic cups and make runners carrying their own cups mandatory, many races do these days.
It's a real shame as it is a fantastic race otherwise but I don't think I want to enter again.

Great race that lives up to its name - The Tough One

This is a great race and well worth doing. Having run it a number of times now it does not get any easier. The 15 mile cut off of 3hrs seemed particularly tight this year and a number of people who didn't make the 3hrs and were told that the last 12miles would be unsupported still finished within the 6hr cut off. The aid stations were light on choice this year and water was being limited at a couple. But still a great race and I will be back again

Excellent adventure!

Just one thing to note was that the compere as we were running over the finish may need to update how he announces e.g. not calling the women darlings and referencing one woman as being as old as this song - apparently our supporters felt uncomfortable with that.

Such a beautiful, brilliant, warm race with top organisation, stunning views and a friendly welcome. Having had an injury I was so pleased to see the 5 mile trail race for the first time this year and hope it'll be back again!

Fantastically organised event if tough.

Great event. Well organised and very friendly. Loved the race and the scenery. It is tough but fab. Beginners should do the half to start with!!
Improvements: An improved medal would be great, event at slightly increased cost.
Thanks for a brilliant day!
