Adding a Course Map To your Races
Participants often want to see a route map of the event they are about to enter. This can prove to be a great way to get them engaged as you might find they share it with their friends. Eventrac makes it easy to upload route maps for one or more components of your race. (A race is always made up of 1 or more component i.e. a running event has 1 component: the run. A triathlon has 5 components: Swim, T1, Bike, T2, Run)
You can add a course map to a component using 2 methods:
Upload a GPX or TCX file of the route (prefered). If you have run the route yourself and have a GPS trace of the route, or have these files available, you can upload them directly to Eventrac
Plot the route by hand using our point and click function
Navigate to the race you wish to add the route map for, and select ‘Manage’ from your dashboard.
Here you will be able to name your map in the white box and then click the green ‘submit’ button.
After submitting your map name, you will be presented with our mapping facility.
If you wish to plot the course manually, you can simply begin clicking which will start the course plotting process. As you click, the route will build. Keep plotting points until you have mapped the route. When finished, click save (item 2) in the top right hand corner.
If you wish to upload a file of your route, simple click "Upload route" button in blue in the top right. When prompted, choose your file and upload it.
Once you have chosen your file, you should see the name come up next to the ‘Chose File’ button. Now click the green ‘Process Upload Route’ button. You should now see your route on the screen, make sure to click the green ‘save’ button on the top right corner.
Note: If your route is already plotted on Strava, you can download it in a .gpx or .tcx file format to upload to your eventrac account. This is also the case for several other route plotters, which will save you the hassle of plotting it twice! Also bear in mind that if you are plotting your route on our mapper, it may not work completely accurately if you have a trail run which goes off the beaten track, so uploading your route from a different map plotter will be the best option.
You can now add the map to your website, so that participants can see the route for themselves! Simply copy the code and embed it into your site.
The team at Eventrac are on hand to assist with all components of your event. From advice on promoting your event through low cost channels such as social media, to a guided tutorial on a specific feature of Eventrac. We are here to help.
