tough but enjoyable!

Wanted to pass on my thanks to the organisers and marshalls - really bad conditions but the marshalls were all helpful and encouraging and the atmosphere was very friendly despite the gale force wind!

Proper Grim in Bridlington

always a tough one this around New Year. The stormy east wind and high tide made the sea conditions epic in 2026, loved it. Tho I would have preferred the jeopardy of dodging a breaking wave round the fun fair rather than the detour up to town, we'd all come expecting grim weather anyway. This is a surprisingly tough urban course, which I enjoy. out n backs so your always seeing your mates and rivals. Some tourists and dogs to dodge, in the unlikely event the weather isn't grim. Fair play the marshalls in this bitter weather, ok for us runners as we're keeping warm running! The post race included meal in the Ship Inn was fab thanks and loved the scottish Burns night themed Haggis etc, decent portion too! Great place to catch up with like minded loons. One of my fave Grim events, loved it ta, in a Type 1 way obvs.

You've got me down as the wrong person

Yes, my time is wrong by about 100 seconds and the images you sent are someone else. I was number 281. Enjoyed the run though. Made me laugh in the pub too. I tried to eat but didn't. It was carnage....just do a buttie. But the person who was me.. but not me may have waten

Better value for money races elsewhere

To start with this race had no atmosphere, started off huddled around a white van being shouted out with instructions. The start and finish was a timing mat on the floor no signs saying start or finish. No roads or paths were closed so in-between weaving in and out of the public there were no spectators to cheer you on. No signs to tell you how far youve gone. Get back to the pub for your "free meal" to be told you can't sit down as paying customers will be coming in for dinner soon. Medal very boring, doesn't even say where the event took place, how long the race was. Grim up north 2026, could have been from any event. No water stations unless you bring your own cup. Felt sorry for the people doing the marathon having to carry a plastic cup for 40+km to have a bit of water. No photos included with your ticket, have to spend another £6.50 per photo for a digital download. Struggling to see where my £25 went to be honest. Dont think I've been to a running event like it. Was very disappointed.

Great Run

Lovely run this morning. Had to drop down due to injury but this was no issue. Nice route could have done with a few more Marshalls. Dad dropped me off but would not have paid £5 to park! Didn’t see any water stations on the 10k but never mind!! See you again soon

Thoroughly enjoyable

Really well organised event. The staff, volunteers and marshalls were excellent and made it a great day. Highly recommend - even with the North Sea wind causing havoc.

My first 10k race

This was my first 10k race, well race in general after having major knee surgery in Jan 2025. I was pretty nervous however everyone was lovely, if we was unsure people where there to lend a hand, the marshalls around the course where brilliant cheering you on as you go! The competitors celebrated each other too, great atmosphere. Loved my first ever medal! Hot pie at the end, i think inwould of prefered a butty though! Would definitely recommend. Thanks for making my first race one to remember, its taken me all day to warm back up, the weather certainly lived up to the grim up north name!

Great Race, Bloody Freezing

The food at the savanah and the Ship inn especially was gorgeous. Fantastic portion size. Would definitely do this event again. 5k is my thing.

A wet and wild trip to the seaside!

Really well organised as always. The sea was so powerful, it really spurred me on!
A tiny thing for future, the event brief said parking chargeable on the day- I pictured a ticket machine, so it was a small miracle we had enough change in the car to pay. Would have helped to say cash only.
Thanks for organising another wonderful event

A good sea side run, kind and friendly people

Having to pay for parking on the day was a bit annoying - and they charged more than they said it would be (£5 - the on line information said £3)-I would rather pay a bit more when I register/enter so that parking is in with the price/free on the day

I did the 10k ( There were 4 different distances). There wasn't many people ahead of me - I was out on my own a lot - even though I'm not all that fast - no one to follow - it wasn't all that clear which way to go. There were not many marshals - not enough I would say- - and the marshals that were there were not really in the spots , I thought - such as, at the turn around point and at points were you could get a bit lost.

We were promised lots of drinks stations but I did not see any, not one.

I think it might work better if everyone ran the same distance

Maybe

I got an email asking for a review. I usually ignore these emails but something about this event irritated me. I spoke to others to check it wasn’t just me. It wasn’t.

Here are my thoughts:

Communication. The website is poorly designed, with incorrect starting times listed. Customer support was virtually nonexistent. This left many participants confused and frustrated before the event even began.

Entry Fees and Parking. £25 to run 10k seems a bit much. And £5 to park on slippery muddy grass? - no grids to protect the grass or to prevent getting stuck.

The Route. The section along the cliff was really nice but quite cramped as it got to Bridlington.

Refreshments. Cola and junk food? seems more appropriate for a kids birthday party. Also, I didn’t bring my own water because I was told there would be water on the route. There was not.

Marshalling and Directions. No clear turning back point. I don’t blame the unpaid Marshalls but I do question the organisers. I just hope they are not profiting from this event whilst getting people to work for free.

Signage. No clear indication of the Finish line. It took me a minute to realise I had to turn the corner to go back through the electronic tag. Surely it should say ‘FINISH’. I saw several people stopping prematurely, thinking they’d finished, whilst their timer was still running. I told a Marshall who did attempt to shout people over to ‘tag out’. But come on, you just need a sign!

The medal. The ‘medal’ might as well say ‘here’s a bit of junk on a lanyard. Who cares?’. Nothing on the ‘medal’ even vaguely suggests it’s for a run, or sporting event of any kind. What a waste of materials and energy. Who on earth designed this ‘medal’? Maybe the person who made the website? If that person is you and you’re reading this, someone should have stopped you and then helped you.

The photos are bad AND they cost and extra £6.50 for one digital download

We skipped the free food. We couldn’t even get inside the pub.

This is event is inspiration for the entrepreneurs out there looking for a cash cow that’s screaming out for someone to come along and do it better. It wouldn’t take much.

There’s nothing about this organisation that makes me think they give a damn.

If you want to take part in an event run by professionals, do a ParkRun. It’s a much higher vibe, the Marshalls have higher moral and it’s well organised. They also have signs, like ‘START and ‘FINISH’.

Poor communication and unsafe management

You charged £25 or more for a run that had only one water station, 3 Marshals who gave no encouragement ( one person turned her back on me) one had no marshal uniform on. I was not sure on the 10k run which way to go at the Belvedere cafe - there was no arrow and no marshal there.
You had no means to write down or record details of any problems as far as I could tell. One marshal had a scrap of paper and a pen that didn’t work to write down an item I’d lost on the circuit. At the end it was unclear where runners should go and there was no sign that anyone cared whether you finished or not.
In all an unprofessional event - maybe better for those who were used to taking their own bladder pack but I really wanted water half way and there was none.
There was a really long queue for the toilets at the start and a long queue to register. We got there at 8 and it took us an hour to park, go to the toilet and register with only 2 people registering. Who is getting the money if as one marshal said you work full time and that’s why none of you answered emails - you were volunteers?
The website gave conflicting times - we eventually found out from another runner that instead of the 5k people going at 8.30 they’d start at 9 and the rest at 9.15 am.
There was no official start and no explanation of ambulance availability or what to do if you felt unwell.
The opposite of all these negative points happened on another run my daughter did and it was less money.

Need more Marshalls as the route is not always clear and actually made the 10 K slightly short
